ABOUT

WOW Cafe is a unique café project located in the very heart of Warsaw's Old Town. The goal was to create a space that organically merges the historical European context of the building with the minimalist, warm, and aesthetically refined atmosphere of contemporary Korean design. The café occupies two levels: the ground floor (parter) with high windows and a bright interior, and the basement level with a chamber-like, intimate atmosphere of vaulted halls.

CONCEPT

The Harmony of Nature and Minimalism.

The design concept is based on the principles of “Wow” (surprise, admiration) and “Mom” (comfort, warmth, coziness). This is realized through a balance between the raw texture of old elements and the purity of modern lines, as well as the integration of natural elements, which is key to Korean aesthetics.

Nature in the Interior: A large tree with red-brown leaves, growing directly in the ground floor hall, is the central element. This creates a feeling of an oasis in the city and symbolizes a connection with nature. Large pots with coniferous plants also add freshness and natural texture.

Light and Shadow: Multi-level lighting is used to create depth and a dramatic effect. Hidden LED strip lighting accentuates lines and highlights textures, especially in the basement, where it illuminates the walls and arches from below.

DESIGN

Ground Floor

The ground floor is executed in light, open tones that maximize the natural light from the large windows.
Ceiling: Exposed utilities and preserved old wooden beams on the ceiling add industrial charm and historical depth.
Bar Counter: Clean, minimalist forms. The white surface of the bar counter with a clean line of LED backlighting emphasizes modernity.
Furniture and Seating: Long benches with comfortable brown leather upholstery, positioned around the central tree, create cozy relaxation zones. The combination of modern wooden chairs with soft seats and small round tables promotes spatial flexibility.

Basement Level

The basement utilizes the historical vaulted ceilings, transforming them into a series of intimate, secluded niches.
Atmosphere: The walls and vaults feature a rough, textured finish, creating a chamber-like, "cave" effect.

Lighting: Accent lighting (wall sconces and track systems) is directed at architectural details and tables, enhancing the sense of seclusion and coziness. Some tables are lighted up with laser light patterns.

Furniture: The use of dark wood for tables and soft, leather round armchairs or low lounge zones creates a relaxing atmosphere. Some tables are decorated with light patterns or engraving, adding a "Wow" element.

WC

The toilets are lighted with laser light patterns that create the effect of moving water.

WOW Cafe is a masterful blend of functional minimalism and emotional warmth, reflecting a contemporary take on Korean hospitality within a historical European setting.
